Woodstock Music and Art Fair is held in New York.

August 15, 1969

Richie Havens is the opening act for the four-day/three night event attracts a crowd of some half a million young people to a cornfield on Max Yasgur’s farm in Bethel, New York. The concert features a host of well-known rock and folk artists and becomes a high point for the so-called “Sixties Generation.” It closes with a morning performance by Jimi Hendrix on August 18, 1969.
